Nutrition Tracking

Yesterday was day 6 of my 24 day challenge.  I tried something new with it.

The past few days I was concerned that I wasn’t getting enough calories for how much I was working out.  Yesterday in particular I did a lot.  I rowed a bunch, I did a WOD of allllll the deadlifts and boxjumps and then I went for a run around a local lake.  Oh, and then I had 2 rounds of dog walks 😛

I made sure to stay within challenge guidelines of what I chose to eat but I also wanted to make sure I was getting the right breakdown of each nutrient: 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat.   I tracked everything in  I changed the settings to make sure it was set how I want, not how they suggested.

I have to say, that I am pretty happy with how I did.  Some things I ate yesterday:

Breakfast of banana, toast and some almond butter

Lunch was just a turkey sandwich with a side of chobani.  Boring and no pictures.

Post workout protein shake mixed with water…not something you want to see since it looks like pee, I swear.  But as an afternoon snack I made an awesome protein powder smoothie.

frozen bluebs+almond milk+vanilla protein+1 tbsp pb = yum

Some Spark thrown into the mix.  I swear I am obsessed with this stuff.  Fruit punch is my go-to right now but I am excited to try the new watermelon flavor!

Dinner was shepherds pie, thanks to this girl for all the cooking help.

I need something sweet after dinner so I snacked on a few pieces of pineapple.  Once all was said and done I am pretty happy with my personal nutrient breakdown!

There is definitely room for improvement but I think tracking my nutrition this way for the next few days will really help me a ton!

Do you track what you eat?

Serious Stuff

TGIF.  Seriously.  This week has been too long.  And I am over it.

So.  One thing I never talked about on GMR was hypothyroidism.  I have that sucker.   I found out when I was 20 and never really had it under control.  Some of the symptoms (mainly the ones that I experience) are fatigue, dry skin, sensitive to cold and weight gain.  Now… I work my butt off and eat pretty good but for me it is really easy to gain weight since I have a super slow metabolism.  That’s fun.  not.

Basically I have an underactive thyroid gland and I have to take medicine for it every day.  Except I don’t didn’t take the medicine every day and I eventually got yelled at by my doctor.

A normal thyroid level is 0.3 to 3.  Last time I had blood work mine was 13.  Not good, I know.  I am working on taking the medicine  so far so good.   Hearing about what can happen if I don’t take my thyroid medication (heart problems, internal bleeding) lit a fire under my booty to go and get all my doctor appointments taken care of….even the girly ones.

Yesterday I had biopsy done of my cervix.  That’s sexy and just what you wanted to hear.  I had too much abnormal tissue and they need to test it.  This is something that is fairly common but for me EARTH SHATTERING.  I know I will be ok. I know I have the big dude upstairs looking out for me.  I will get the results in a couple of weeks and have to go for follow-up appointments but I have faith that it will be ok.

Are you asking yourself “if you have faith that everything is ok, then why is this earth shattering?”

well….no exercise for 2-3 weeks.  CLEARLY the doctor doesn’t know me.  Umm.. Sorry doc…All I know how to do right these days is run and crossfit sooo…that’s not going to work for me.

OK. I am going to listen to the doctor.  I got permission to TRY the elliptical on Tuesday and see what happens from there.  I am praying to little baby jesus that the doc over estimated and I really only need to take it easy for 1-2 weeks.

I am not sure why I felt the need to share all of this.  But it’s out there now.  It is off my chest and out there. BOOM.

If you see me today and I look like I got hit by a truck… I feel like I did.  Yesterday was a tough day for me…..oh did I mention I had to have an ultrasound on TOP of everything else yesterday.  There is some pesky tissue that is too dense for my doc’s liking riiiight on my ta-ta. Don’t worry, that turned out to be nothing. phew.

As for this weekend I am going to try and eat like a super health freak as opposed to the dessert-loving-memorial-day-celebrating-person I am.  I am also hoping to get in quality hang out time with these guys

It is ALSO the first unofficial weekend of summer which helps a lot too 🙂
Thanks for letting me spill my guts and taking the time to listen read.

Dear Bloggy Buddies

I am currently busy freaking out as the worst MOH in the history of weddings.

I have nothing to wear.

The wedding is in two days.

Pray I find a dress.

See you after I find the dress.  Or lose 10 pounds so the original one fits.

Taper Help

Ohhh hayyy Monday 🙂

I’m still in a partial food coma even though I am up and at work already.  Seriously, I don’t need to eat for days after yesterday.  I mean, of course I will eat, but I just don’t have to.   I would much rather be doing this with them than be at work!

Last night J and I went for a quick ride on his motorcycle.  It was a little chilly but I love how goofy we look in helmets riding on the motorcycle when the sun is shining!

I have a full Monday planned with work, lunch break run and hopefully body pump.  I have my big race this weekend and I am having a hard time deciding how hard or easy I should take it this week.  Everything I read says to actually taper but I have only ever tapered for a full marathon, never a half.  Since I want this race to be a good one I want to do it the right way… I just can’t decide what the right way is! Help??

A few interesting things I found on the internet today I thought I would share:

What animal should you have?

What happened to her?!

Some new ideas and ones we already knew

Hope you have a happy day 🙂

Interesting Attraction

While browsing the internet today I found an article on Glamour’s website that really got my attention.

Apparently there was an attraction at Epcot in Disney world that didn’t last long.  Granted, I didn’t see the attraction first hand, but every description I read made it seem as though it was Fat vs Fit.

According to Disney’s local newspaper, The Orlando Sentinel, the attraction is described:

“In the first of three interactive rooms, visitors confront (remote) Control Freak and blow up raining televisions. Next they take on Sweet Tooth and Snacker, and wage a food fight with video-arcade style guns that abolish junk food using healthy food as ammunition. Broccoli and apples knock out cream puffs and hot dogs.

Finally, the group upends Lead Bottom in a room where Just Dance-style technology gets everyone moving. Each guest stands in his or her own spotlight and gets down while heart rates get up.

Upon exiting, kids can have their photo captured and emailed to them. Those who want to continue the fight back home can use their photo to create an avatar at, where they can confront 25 more bad habits.”

The ride has since been closed down due to complaints from various fat-acceptance groups.

I am not sure how I feel about the whole thing.  I think that obesity is/has become an issue in the US…But I can also see how someone would be offended by this attraction.

When J and I were in Disney, we noticed that there were scooters available for renting.  Now, this is totally just a judgement on my behalf and I didn’t know or speak to anyone on the rental scooters but for the most part, based on looks alone…. The majority of the people with a scooter appeared to be very much overweight.  While there was the occasional crutch carrying person or senior citizen, most people seemed to very large.  Now, this is completely an observation and I don’t know the stories of anyone so I could be wrong.

I think weight is a touchy subject for most anyone, so it’s surprising to me that Disney would support an attraction like this.  I am not sure what I think about all of this.

What are your thoughts?
