Track Time

Oh Hello there!  Right now I am sitting on my back deck trying to let the pups get some fresh air and recooping from a killer CrossFit workout.

It is LAVA outside so I don’t think walking the dogs is a smart idea.  Instead I will blog while they pant their faces off.

I have been super busy so I have a lot to catch you up on!

Last night I stayed at my parents house about an hour away from where I live.   First I got to meet miss Penny and we had an awesome backyard photo shoot.

Then I had some quality time with momma bear before we had a meeting to go to.

First we went and got our skanky runners feet taken care of.  Bless those people who touch my feet, even I don’t like to sometimes!

Then it was the most nutritious dinner I have had in a while… Ice cream.  Hey, At least I got the greek frozen yogurt, that has to count for something!

After we went to a meeting for a local running club to discuss the 5K I am working on.  I didn’t get very far but I am still working on it.  Apparently insurance is kinda a big thing. i’m an idiot and thought this would be a tad easier. Worth all the work though, it will be a for a great cause and a great guy.

REWIND to before the quality mother daughter time…. I did speed work.  At a track.  and not just any old speedwork.  I did Yasso 800’s.  OHhHhh, what are Yasso 800’s you ask?

For real though, they are one of the toughest speed workouts you can do in my opinion.

Bart Yasso is basically a running god.  He works for Runners World and came up with the “Yasso 800’s.”

The workout is running 800 meters (2 laps around a track) fast.  The point is to work up to 10 800’s in one workout.  Here is a blurb from Bart himself that explains better than I can about what it actually is:

“I’ve been doing this particular workout for about 15 years,” he continued, “and it always seems to work for me. If I can get my 800s down to 2 minutes 50 seconds, I’m in 2:50 marathon shape. If I can get down to 2:40 (minuses), I can run a 2:40 marathon. I’m shooting for a 2:37 marathon right now, so I’m running my 800s in 2:37.”

Ideally, I want to get 10 800’s all under 3:30.  It is much harder than it sounds.  So, my friend and I met at the track and busted our balls.  Since I have no pictures for you, I decided to show my artistic side and show you what we looked like

We both finished 5 800’s all under 3:20 – 3:19 counts!  It was tough.  My ribs…yes ribs may or may not be sore today from the run.  We will hopefully do this workout once a week, each week adding one more 800.  I will definitely keep you posted on my progress!  Oh, and I guess I will keep my BFF Bart posted too, I mean, because we ARE BFF’s and all

I am off to celebrate the FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF SUMMER by staying up way past my bedtime (might push it to 9:30, i live life on the edge) and swim a bit!
