In every sport I have ever played, running was always the punishment. Scream too many times on the bus? Get on the line and sprint. Do something stupid in a game? Get on the line and sprint.
I feel like running has been instilled in so many people as a negative thing. ITS NOT! Running is awesome. Some people love it and some people hate it, but I think most people don’t give running a fair chance.
When you first start out it’s hard. It probably makes muscles you didn’t know you had hurt, it makes you not be able to breathe, it’s uncomfortable. But, what did you expect? As with anything new, you need to get used to it. Don’t give up on it without giving it a fair chance.
Another misconception people have is they think they should be able to just go out and run. NOPE. It takes time.
-When you first start out, start with mostly walking. Walk for 2 minutes, run for 30 seconds and continue to do this for 20 minutes. Eventually increase the amount of time running instead of walking and before you know it, you will be able to run for 20 minutes straight.
-Don’t expect to be Speedy Gonzalez right away. If it takes you 13 minutes to run a mile, who cares!? You still ran an entire mile. I have been running and training for 6 years and I am just starting to feel like I am getting “fast”, what ever fast means. DONT STOP TRYING THOUGH. I read a quote a while ago that I am pretty much obsessed with because I feel like it applies to me 100%.
I work my ass off. I try my hardest all the time. Am I the fastest person in races? Nope. Am I the strongest person in crossfit? Not at all. But do I know I am one of the hardest workers out there? Ohhhhh FOR SURE! And I take pride in that, in how hard I bust my ass. And eventually, like in my last race, I start seeing results.
-Do your research. There are so many articles out there on how to run, how to start, and how to get better at running. Take advantage of them!
You won’t know until you try, and trying doesn’t mean one run. It means giving it a fair shot. It means putting in the time and effort. It means a few weeks, a few runs. Do me a favor, JUST TRY!
Need some motivation?
Make it a great day
