Overtraining or just enough

Today was a good day!  I even got my fix of DD- Thanks Jim!

I do have something I have been thinking about.  Overtraining.  Am I doing it? Am I doing too much?

Today I went to the gym planning on doing a 1 hour bootcamp workout (more on that later) then a spin workout for some cross training.  I finished my bootcamp workout and did about 15 minutes on the bike.  I was OVER it.  15 minutes and I was sweaty and wishing I was running.

Why not run then?  I hopped on the treadmill.  I told myself only 2 miles.  This wasn’t because I was tired but because I think I need a day of no running.  I got going and felt good and strong.  I did 3 miles with 4 800 repeats and forced myself to stop. I didn’t want to.  But in my head I needed a day off.   This is where I am confused.  I feel like I was being silly today.  Shouldn’t I just listen to my body?  If I feel tired or like I am over doing it I take a day off.  Just because I think I should take off but I feel good, does that mean I should rest?  I don’t know what is right or wrong!

I found this article and at the end there is a quiz about over training.  If you score over 40 you are definitely over training.  My score?  5!  Yea,… FIVE.  I think from now on I will just listen to my body.  I know what works for me and what doesn’t.  Thoughts?

Now that I got that off my chest…. Todays workout!

This took about an hour to complete and I was a total babe in the process

please notice the cheek sweat. awesome

I did 10 sets of each exercise.  30 seconds on, 10 seconds off.

Squats with over head press

1 minute Jumping Jacks

Tricep dips alternating with hammer curls

1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute alternating lunges

Step ups alternating with tuck jumps

1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute alternating lunges, 1 minute mountain climbers

Bentover row alternating with push ups

1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute alternating lunges, 1 minute mountain climbers

Dumbell curls alternating with overhead tricep press

5 minutes abs including various crunches and planks

This is definitely a tough workout. I have to say though, when I first did this about a month or 2 ago it was MUCH harder than today!  That is always a nice thing 🙂

Now I am waiting for jlove because I have a sneaky little surprise for him

What could that be? 😉
